What does the role involve?

This Field Service Engineer position will involve the maintenance and servicing of numerous types of equipment; from sputtering to equipment retrofits, de-install, move, installation and system commissioning.

On all continents, in all climates. Our Field Service Engineers fulfil the short term and medium term placements at facilities all over the world, sticking their pins in the advanced manufacturing map. A love of travel and adventure will be part of your make-up.

Fantastic flexibility

Our Field Service Engineers are unfailingly responsive. You will be able to fulfil placements at short notice and work on the road for up to 40 weeks per year. We offer a flexible weekend working arrangement which offers you a greater choice of working days.

Job details and remuneration

This is an immediate position available in a European fab for 2 or more weeks per month -  depending on the Engineer’s preference - for a minimum of 18 months.

IES offer an attractive pay package competitive with the industry’s highest rates. The labour rate offered will be dependent on your skill levels. We provide hotel or apartment accommodation depending on the Engineer’s preference. IES pay for all airfares, provide a vehicle and cover fuel costs. We provide a per diem for food, refreshments and any other justifiable expenses.

You will report to our Business Development Manager and Project Manager. This is a home-based role, with requirements to visit IES head office in Bristol.

We are looking for engineers in the making; motivated, inquisitive individuals with a mechanical, or electrical mindset. If that sounds like you, it doesn’t matter if you are an engineering newbie, or are in the process of a career switch. If you take a responsible approach to your work and know your way around a toolbox, this exciting entry-level role could be for you.  With short term placements around the world, our engineers pick up unmatched experience in the most technologically advanced manufacturing facilities.

What does the role involve?

What do you bring to the table?

There is no such thing as the perfect skill set. You might have a grounding in HVAC, be an electronics expert, or even a ‘weekend mechanic’; our engineers come from a wide range of educational, professional and personal backgrounds. This Entry Level Field Service Engineer position is a chance to use your transferable skills in plotting a new career path.

Qualifications desired, but not essential (in a relevant field): Higher National Diploma (HND), Btec, Apprenticeship.

You will be proficient in Microsoft Office applications; Word and Excel.

What are we looking for?

We welcome candidates with a minimum of one to two years’ relevant experience. Candidates can offer a different range of skillsets, but there are five important qualities which are indispensable as an IES engineer. These are:

A mechanical or electrical mindset

Do you like nothing more than using your hands, your tools and your brain? Semiconductor manufacturing is an industry which is perfect for the testers, tinkerers and technicians.

‘Can do’ attitude

Sometimes, even with the best planning and execution, unexpected issues can crop up. That’s when the problem solvers and perseverers are most valuable. If you are adverse to the words “I give up!”, this role could suit you down to the ground. 

Technical knowhow

Are you itching to put what you’ve learnt in higher education or previous jobs to good use? Whether it’s an HND in electronic engineering, or a machinist certification, rest assured you’ll be able to apply what you know.

Clear communication

Good communication and interpersonal skills are fundamental for this role. 

A flexible schedule

We pride ourselves on the responsiveness of our Field Service Engineer offering. As such, you will be able to travel at short notice and commit to as much as 30 to 40 weeks per year working on the road.
